Preparing a Bible Lesson - Jim Bury
April – Tuesday evenings,
7.00 – 9.00 pm (AEST)
8, 15, 22, 29 April 2025
$33 (incl GST) Instructor: Jim Bury
This course introduces practical aspects of teaching an adult Bible lesson. Teaching God’s Word in an adults’ class is a common task in many churches. In smaller churches, often the role falls upon men and women who have not had prior training in Bible, theology, or classroom teaching.
In order to help such teachers, this course focuses on three main topics: “Understanding a Bible Passage”, “Building a Lesson”, and “Leading a Class”. The course assumes no prior teaching expertise or academic study of Scripture. It offers practical insights which can improve the skills of beginning and moderately experienced Bible teachers.
Course materials will include brief readings and handouts provided in digital form. After the course, it is expected that participants will be better equipped to:
-
Explore and explain a Bible passage in light of its original intent;
-
Plan and prepare a lesson showing the contemporary significance and relevance of a biblical teaching; and
-
Lead a study or discussion helping others see how the Bible speaks to our attitudes and behaviours today.
Participants will be expected to complete weekly exercises applying the topics covered in the course (access to a printer is necessary). This short course will be delivered over four live online (Zoom) sessions. Come and enjoy the camaraderie of Christians interested in learning!

Growing Old in Christ:
A Biblical Theology of Ageing
- Steve Wilson
May – June Tuesday evenings,
7.00 – 9.00 pm (AEST)
13, 20, 27, May& 10, 17, 24 June '25
$44 (incl GST) Instructor: Steve Wilson
The psalmist acknowledges that old age is a bonus, a gift from God. And the apostle Paul admonishes Christians to “live a life that is worthy of the calling He has graciously extended to you” (Ephesians 4:1). So, how do we, as disciples of Christ, live our gift of old age worthily?
Our affluence will allow most of us to engage in a thing called “retirement.” How is a Christian to view their retirement? Our medical technologies are allowing us to stay alive longer, even though our quality of life may still leave much to be desired. How is a Christian to navigate caring for aged parents, as well as our own age-related onset of disability? What is a “good death” from a Christian point of view, and how do we prepare for a good death?
This short course facilitates our thinking about ageing from a theological and biblical perspective. It will be delivered over six live online sessions via Zoom.
Come and join in the camaraderie of Christians interested in learning!

At the end of the course, it is expected that participants can:
-
Understand the purpose, place, and function of the Lord’s prophets for God’s people.
-
Identify the books that are recognised in the Hebrew Scriptures as “prophetic books” and how these books advance the message of Scripture.
-

-

-
Apply these biblical teachings to our lives today.

The Book of Romans
- Paul Pollard

This course is an introductory study to the epistle to the Romans. An exposition of the text will be central, with an eye on the larger flow of Romans. This will entail how Paul's argument works and why he makes certain theological points.
While some passages will receive more attention than others, issues in Paul's culture and ours will be explored, plus his major theological themes. In this process we will learn how Romans relates to our personal lives and to the churches we serve today.
At the end of the course, it is expected that participants can:
